There is a diversity of walking environments across Australia.
An overview of climate, bushwalking areas and notable walks is provided for each State and Territory. Links to the best sources of current local information on warnings, emergencies and hazards is also provided.
Bushfires and floods can have a significant impact on large areas or be limited to a particular park. The amount of damage to access roads, walking tracks, camping areas, bridges, the risk of falling trees, missing track makers and the like will determine if access for walkers is restricted. Some areas may be closed for walking, camping or both for significant periods of time. Check the relevant land management website for current information and alerts via the links provided for the State.
