Vehicles used by bushwalkers to access bush areas, especially more remote locations, should be in good mechanical condition and adequately equipped with basic safety equipment, including:
- First aid kit
- Drinking water, at least 10L, more in summer
- 12V phone charger
- Torch
- Safety vest
- Groundsheet
- Shovel
- Gloves
- Jumper leads with surge guard
- Saw or axe
If travelling over the bushfire season, sufficient for all passengers:
- Extra water
- Woollen blankets or fire blankets
- Safety glasses
- P2 smoke masks
- Long sleeve cotton or wool clothing
- Leather boots and gloves
If travelling in winter to areas where snowfall is possible:
- Snow chains (diamond pattern)
- Additional long handled shovel
- Ice scraper for windscreen
- Ensure alpine diesel for diesel vehicles
